December 1, 2019 - As part of the project "Women's Social Entrepreneurship in Culture," the NGO Creative Center Tivat is organizing the second of six exhibitions planned to present to the public the creative work of about 30 women who gravitate to this society. The interactive presentation will be staged at the Regatta Cafe in Seljanovo on Sunday from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Iva Gopcevic Celanovic, President of the Organization and Project Coordinator, is emphasizing the need to share creative energy and allow creative women to present their work and share the enthusiasm with others, from which they will draw inspiration for new creative cycles. Gopcevic Celanovic reiterated that there are a large number of creatives in Tivat who need a meeting place, which is one of the goals that this project aims to achieve.

"We believe that the comfortable space for creating and exhibiting our handicrafts is the space of the former MarMar Cafe in Donja Lastva. We have launched a petition on our website, urging fellow citizens to join us in our efforts to persuade local government officials to entrust us with this public space. With such a creative hub, we would offer Tivat and Lastva new content that, in addition to artistic ones, would also have significant entrepreneurial potential, especially in the context of tourism, "Iva Gopcevic Celanovic told Radio Tivat.

The Regatta will present works in various techniques today. In addition to art paintings, handicrafts painted natural materials, and visitors will also be able to see photographs, art installations, jewelry, artwork created at the loom.

The exhibitions are just one of the segments of the Women's Social Entrepreneurship in Culture project, through which Tivcan women and Tivat guests were offered a range of free creative workshops, as well as yoga and meditation classes. The project is being implemented through the RELOAD program, sponsored by the EU, implemented by UNDP in Montenegro, and the workshops, which will last for another five months, are open to all interested.

Just before the coldest period of the year, twenty new homes, already in use, arrived in the Herceg Novi Asylum for Abandoned Dogs. Shelters at Dizdarica were provided by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, which, together with the company “Cistoca” and volunteers, is working to improve the conditions for dog care in this facility.

The dog houses were necessary and important, and how much they contributed to improving the treatment of animals, assured today the Mayor of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katic, who visited the Asylum with his associates. He expressed his satisfaction with the way in which the business of procuring, assembling and installing the houses was realized, as well as the functioning of the Asylum.

Cooperation between local government and “Cistoca” with volunteers is a good way to identify needs and continue to improve conditions in the Asylum, Katic said. As he pointed out, the local government also included in the draft Budget for 2020 the funds for the work of Asylum, recognizing that this facility is a need of the city and that it is important to provide good conditions for the care of abandoned animals.

He thanked the citizens who adopted the dogs, as well as those who significantly assisted with their donations. He invited everyone who wanted a pet to visit the Asylum and find a new friend.

Visit to the Asylum for dogs

Director of the company “Cistoca” Vladimir Arsic emphasized that the houses are very appropriate, especially before the winter. According to him, the value of this purchase is about three thousand euros, and after that came the sand that will cover the area for the movement of dogs. At present, 84 dogs are housed in the Asylum, with five employees collecting, housing and caring for animals.

Arsic points out that asylum costs are quite substantial, amounting to between five and six thousand euros a month. It functions thanks to the assistance of citizens, individuals and businesses, Arsic says, and thanks in particular to the company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” (Water supply and Sewage) and anonymous donors for the larger amount of food they donate during the month.

The director adds that another expense is the reimbursement for the use of the facility, worth 222 euros a month, which is paid by “Cistoca” to the Ministry of Defense as the owner of the space. He added that significant funds were invested in the renovation of these premises, for which the Ministry failed to obtain a refund.

Five registered volunteers work at the asylum. One of them, volunteer Jasna Cavic, said that they were trying to secure various donations in food and equipment, but also to promote the adoption of dogs. She believes that procedures for asylum visits need to be facilitated and that volunteerism in Herceg Novi should be at a higher level.

November 28, 2019 - The idea of building a regional hospital for patients from the Boka area is increasingly gaining public attention. In the interview for Radio Kotor, Director of Kotor General Hospital, Dr. Ivan Ilic pointed out that recently, the Ministry of Health has shown considerable interest in paying particular attention to this topic.

"The fact is that the state should address this investment. I recently received a message from the minister that the plan to build a regional hospital would be part of the strategic budget for next year. I do not know how possible this realization is at the moment, but it is certainly of utmost importance the information I've received recently," said Dr. Ilic.

He reminded that Prime Minister Dusko Markovic was also introduced to the idea.

"Combining the staff and equipment of all three hospitals in the Kotor municipality in one place is the only strategy that guarantees the quality development of the hospital service in the area of Boka," said Dr. Ilic.

According to Ilic, the Municipality of Kotor has recently offered assistance in the realization of this significant project.

"I had a meeting with the mayor Željko Aprcović, who promised wholehearted assistance. It would be realistic for a regional hospital to be located near an industrial zone in the Kotor area. This would bring the fastest growing cities in the region, such as Budva and Tivat, within a few kilometers, and the arrival of patients from Herceg Novi could be solved by ferry, sea transport, or ambulance," says Dr. Ilic.

It is, he said, a significant investment that is certainly not easy to secure. "However, when it comes to combining staff and equipment - this story should be our future, and that's why I try to update it whenever possible in public," said Dr. Ilic.

Ilic recalls that there are ways to secure funds from some investment banks and the European Development Fund. "After all - the sites where the General Hospital and the Special Hospital for Psychiatry are located are attractive and have a price that can be part of the investment capital for the construction of a new hospital," said Dr. Ilic.

Kotor General Hospital, to which gravitates about 80,000 potential patients from the Boka region, as well as a large number of visitors, has a space problem. "We work hard, but we have no more space. These are not the conditions that a modern hospital in this century should have," said Dr. Ilic.

The Kotor General Hospital employs a total of 231 people. "Among them, there are 47 doctors, 13 of whom are in the specialization, 124 are nurses and technicians. We also hire medical staff under a contract, without which it would also be challenging to function." Dr. Ilic said, recalling that the new systematization provides employment opportunities for staff, but also that the institution's annual budget "cannot cover the costs necessary for new hires."

"With the current budget, we can barely meet all the obligations, considering the current headcount. Nevertheless, we are recognized as an institution that functions very rationally. But the question is how long it can work in these conditions. We have to wait for the budget for the coming year, which, if increased, would allow us new employment. So far, things are working with the enthusiasm of the employees, but strengthening the staff structure is essential," concluded Dr. Ilić, a guest on the Radio Kotor program.
