08 May 2019 - Extending the tourist season in the countries of the region is one of the leading priorities and challenges in the area, it was pointed out at the fourth Forum of EUSAIR which is taking place in Budva.

Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Pavle Radulović, took part in the first day of the Forum, on the panel with the thematic subject – sustainable tourism.

All participants of the panel have agreed that many aspects play important roles in the reduction of seasonality – improving the hotel offer, better accessibility of the destination and improving the quality of the product.

One of the priorities is the diversification of the offer certainly. The development of the offer based on the comparative advantages of our destination that will satisfy different demands of tourists should be in focus.

Risks that specific regions are faced with – primarily due to the great tourist pressure – have been pointed out. In that context, it is necessary to establish a more efficient model of destination management. They also spoke about the results achieved in tourism, plans for the forthcoming period and cooperation in the region.

Žarko Radulović, president of the Montenegrin Tourism Association recently said that this year’s tourist season had started better than expected and Montenegro can already expect that revenues from tourism would reach 1,1 million EUR. According to him, this will be a record-breaking year for tourism in Montenegro. He also pointed out that tourism could manage to generate even more revenues, but some things must be arranged before that.

08 May 2019 - On May 8, representatives of the local government of Budva visited the area of the promenade owned by the Municipality of Budva to assess the progress made in regards to the construction works in this area which is currently on-going. The construction works are related to removing all temporary objects from the promenade, which would improve the appearance of the city altogether. The representatives of the local government are still looking for the perfect solution in regards to the facilities located on the promenade, and the locals are worried that the construction works will not be completed before the start of the tourist season.

According to the report by the News Agency RTV Budva, a large number of tourists who spent the Easter holidays in Budva encountered an awful image while strolling through the main promenade. The tourists and the locals had to avoid numerous holes, dirt as well as irregularly placed plates along the walking area.

In order to find the solution of this problem, the representatives of the local government of the Municipality of Budva, Vice President Vladimir Bulatović, Secretary of the Secretariat for Utility and Housing Srđan Gregović and Vukašin Mijatović from the Secretariat for Investments, met on the spot to discuss the future steps. The summer tourist season is just around the corner, so it is extremely important that the promenade is brought into aesthetically acceptable condition as soon as possible.

As RTV Budva learned from the authorities, the first step in regards to the solution of this problem is the reconstruction of 300 square meters of the promenade. In addition, numerous other steps will be undertaken in regards to the aesthetics of the promenade. Administrative disputes with leaseholders of temporary buildings that did not act in line with the Decision about the removal of facilities in the Budva promenade zone are being processed and the resolution of these disputes is one of the most important steps when it comes to finding a permanent solution for the promenade issue.

07 May 2019 - Strong economic growth in all sectors is an indicator of the correctness of the direction of development we have opted for and the vision we have for Montenegro, said Prime Minister Duško Marković at the opening of the 4th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR).

He stressed that the vision also includes Montenegro as the energy hub of the region, with an undersea power cable to Italy or renewable energy sources, as well as a balanced regional development that will be strategically strengthened by the construction of the first motorway in the country.

"Montenegro, by its development, confirms European values in the best way, as a future member of the European Union and a responsible neighbor and actor in the region and beyond,"  Prime Minister Marković added.

He noted that Montenegro is ending its one-year chairmanship of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative and the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region. At the same time, the University of Montenegro is ending its one-year chairmanship over the UniAdrion Association, which brings together 38 universities and research centres in the region.

Strong Economic Growth Indicates Right Development Path

The Adriatic-Ionian region, said Prime Minister Marković, is a home for over 70 million people sharing the same challenges, but also the same, exceptional potential. "Although we have different economic indicators, we all have to bear in mind the same goal that the European Union's strategy for this the region promotes - a uniformly developed, competitive area and a region characterised by economic and social growth".

The Prime Minister pointed out that accelerated economic development and job creation, as well as the creation of business opportunities through concrete activities in the sector of blue growth, transport and energy networks, sustainable tourism and environmental development, must remain the backbone of our work. Montenegro, in the Prime Minister's words, follows these goals.

"Montenegro is the first non-EU member state to chair the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian region. We have accepted the Presidency as a challenge, but also as an additional responsibility, aware that the Strategy represents a mechanism for strengthening the process of European integration, "said Prime Minister Marković.

He emphasised that Montenegro's participation in the programmes of cross-border and transnational cooperation is a key factor that enables us to use the potentials of our countries in the best possible way, and finally, as a future member, to be fully prepared for the use of structural and investment funds.

"Economic progress inevitably leads to the development of cities and universities, and in addition to the areas above, we have continuously invested in scientific cooperation, research projects and continuous building of modern teaching staff," Prime Minister Marković stated.

He said that he is particularly pleased that, within the Science, Innovation and Growth Panel, the Forum's participants will have the opportunity to hear more about the Montenegrin initiative to establish the International Institute for Sustainable Technologies in South East Europe, which he believes can strongly contribute to regional prosperity as our common goal, ensuring the best way to slow down brain drain.

The next few days in Budva, the EU Forum of the European Union for the Adriatic-Ionian Region will be organised together with the conference of the forums of the Adriatic-Ionian Chambers of Commerce, Cities and Universities, which is an exceptional potential for linking hundreds of representatives of state institutions, local authorities, business people, civil sector and all stakeholders recognising the importance of promoting and improving the close cooperation of the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region.

The elementary school "Marko Miljanov" in Podgorica will celebrate the half-century of its existence on Wednesday.

"It has carried out the educational mission since early 1969 due to the need for schooling in the area of MZ Konik. This institution gave a great contribution to the education of the population and to raising the level of general literacy, spreading multiethnic harmony and multiculturalism in which the spirit lived and created Marko Miljanov, whose name is proudly represented by our school," said the school director Edita Sabotic.

000.jpg

She said that one of the first mayors of Podgorica, the national writer from Kuci, and the man who wrote about the examples of humanity and heroism he had found in his own and foreign people, was their best representative and certainly worthy of the topic."There are many examples of his humanitarian and heroic acts that have become legends. Today they are recounted and quoted when someone really wants to point out or explain the definition of a man. His literary work and social engagement have created a great reputation and respect for him in Montenegro and beyond, but also contributed to nourish the educational spirit in our environment," Sabotic said.

She pointed out that in 1881, at the initiative of Marko Miljanov, the first Podgorica Library was founded, which was the forerunner of today's City Library "Radosav Ljumovic", and that he left his estate to the institutions of education, enough to tell how much this great man was aware of the importance of the development of education and culture in our region.

"Towards the jubilee, through a series of activities, our school will recall the name of this great Montenegrin man that may not be forgotten, on May 8, 2019”, Sabotic said.

Gymnasium "Petar I Petrovic Njegos" from Danilovgrad, with the Ministry of Education and the support of the Danilovgrad Municipality, organizes the Gymnasium Fest Danilovgradation on May 10th, said the Ministry of Education.

"The event will consist of competition and an official part, with ten bands from 10 Montenegrin high schools, on the platform below the city bridge. Marija Bozovic with her band will perform in the official part. The jury has been formed and consists of the following members: Zeljko Milovic - journalist and publicist, author of monographs on Montenegrin rock and pop scene (president), Vjera Nikolic - pianist and performer of jazz, blues, time, ethno and pop music, Mihailo Radonjic - musician, Nina Zizic - vocal soloist. Each band will perform with three compositions out of which one is authored and two are already known compositions in Montenegrin and a foreign language. The first-awarded band will have the opportunity to record their song while for the second and third prizes funds are provided for the purchase of musical equipment that is necessary for the band," said the Ministry of Education.

Gymnasium Fest is organized for the first time, to help to build musical tastes in young people and focus on quality content in general.

"This is not just about the technical organization of an event, but the message we send with it, and that means you need to filtrate the numerous contents you encounter. If you do not know how to do it and you are in continuity exposed to the social networks, media and forms of communication of the modern society, you are only a consumer for those who are the most intrusive. We must not allow it. Our children must know that the choice of music they are listening to, the films they will dedicate their time to, the theatre performances they will see, the art and other exhibitions they will visit, are not peripheral things in their lives. These choices have a lot of influence on the formation of their views on the world. What I really appreciate is the fact that the students are also competing with the author's songs. No one expects them to be ideal, and it is not our goal. Our goal is to encourage them to create and show them that they have the potential to create new value. It is important that they become creators and then whatever they create will become better and better in time," said Milica Lekic from the Ministry of Education.

Nataša Latković, director of the gymnasium in Danilovgrad said that the event is organized so that we develop a healthy competitive spirit with the children but not to cause any burden. "It is only important for us to encourage them to create and to say that not all that is surrounding them is good. To let them know that they have a choice of content to dedicate their time and to make this choice wisely. Our pupils, as all the children, have a huge potential that seeks out their orientation, seeking to make them clear that they must have integrity and that they should never be put off by behaviors and commitments that are not close to them and which they know they are not good. I know that this is a huge task for them, but I know that they are mature enough to deal with it. I want to point out that this year the Gymnasium Fest is organized for the first time, and since it is some pilot project, it is related only to gymnasiums. Depending on what the reactions are, we will think in the direction of converting this manifestation into the traditional one, and in this case, it's expanding," Latkovic said. Gymnasium bands which will compete come from Podgorica, Niksic, Bijelo Polje, Pljevlja, Kotor, Bar, Cetinje, Beran, Rozaje and Danilovgrad.

It is added that, when solving the problem, the support to the youth will be provided by municipal services in all the three cities included.

To show their peers how they can be active, they have also organized the action of cleaning a neglected location in Spuz and the action of warning drivers who improperly parked cars to block the traffic and sidewalks.

They told their peers to do something to solve the problem in the community and win the summer activist adventure.

"Find something that makes you nervous, that is not in compliance with the law, that is dangerous, and is related to consumer rights “ZutiMAG”, environmental protection “GreenMAG” and traffic “RedMAG”," said the team members.

Young people should be able to take pictures of the noted irregularities in different categories, upload the image on Instagram with "slikajaktiviraj" and a special hashtag for each category (“ZutiMAG", “GreenMAG” and "RedMAG"), or upload the photo directly on the site www.slikajaktiviraj.me.

06 May 2019 - Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin and Director of the American Peace Corps Jody Olsen signed an agreement on cooperation in Podgorica earlier today, under which the United States volunteers will support youth education in Montenegro.

Deputy Prime Minister Pažin said that the engagement of the Peace Corps' volunteers in Montenegro would significantly boost the quality of the English language learning in the Montenegrin primary and secondary schools, especially in less developed areas in the north of the country.

"I see the special value of this programme as an opportunity for the citizens in the north of Montenegro who, because of their economic or social status, are not able to learn English, to improve their knowledge and raise professional capacities, thus making a contribution to the development of their communities and the overall prosperity of Montenegro," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

He also stated that the launch of the programme of the American Peace Corps in Montenegro is another confirmation of the partnership, support, and friendship of the US Government and the people towards Montenegro and its citizens.

"We see the US volunteers in Montenegro as another important opportunity for the US and Montenegrin citizens to enrich their experience and knowledge through personal contacts and make friendships based on mutual understanding and common values," DPM Pažin underscored.

Today's signing testifies to the close partnership between the United States and Montenegro and our commitment to the shared vision of the brighter future of Montenegro and its neighbours in the Western Balkans, Director Olsen noted.

The agreement on cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the American Peace Corps envisages the arrival of a group of the US volunteers to teach English in primary and secondary schools, mainly in northern Montenegro. The first group of twelve volunteers is scheduled to come to Montenegro next year, after which the number of volunteers will increase according to the needs.

Peace Corps is an agency run by the United States Government, founded by then-President John F. Kennedy in 1961, in order to promote peace and friendship in the world by sending American volunteers to contribute to the economic and social development of the countries in which they are engaged.

Her long-term dream has become a reality - Jelena Simic, the actress from Podgorica City Theater, is officially part of the Canadian circus sensation Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun), also referred to as the Circus of the 21st Century. At the audition in Paris in July last year, Simic found herself in the shortlist of the candidates, out of whom, in the end, were elected four for the Circus from Montreal. Jelena is the only one from Montenegro, and there is one candidate from Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Jelena did not want to talk about anything publicly until she got the official confirmation of the membership. And while her emotions settled, she could say for herself today that she is a "clown at the beginning of her career" and a "Cirque dreamer".

"Some ten years ago, I started to follow Cirque du Soleil, through Facebook and YouTube. In addition to their performances, I watched documentary material and I felt that I would love to be part of such a team. I've practiced gymnastics and dancing from when I was a child, which meant a lot to me when I was studying at the Academy and now in doing my job. Not just physical readiness, but also the discipline and self-control that sport teaches us. I had the impression that these skills were needed to work in a team like Cirque du Soleil," she said.

Jelena regularly followed the auditions of the world’s circus sensation, but until last year she did not dare to apply, due to the suspicion that the level of the entire set of skills she possesses is not high enough to consider her at all.

10.jpg

"Today I'm sorry that I did not try it before, but I'm really happy to hear that I passed the audition on my first try. This is for me the most precious and most desirable professional experience," she says.

Several fantastic circus companies in the world are engaged in a contemporary circus in the same way as the circus from Montreal. Still, says Jelena, Cirque du Soleil is the largest of them.

"Cirque du Soleil gathers artists of different profiles from all over the world, respects and inspires the art of all nations and cultures. I believe that this company has succeeded in gathering and raising the art of the whole world to the highest level," adds the young actress from Podgorica.

Cirque du Soleil was founded in 1984 when the hull was made of 20 street entertainers. Today, it employs more than 4,000 people, including 1,300 artists from nearly 50 countries worldwide.

“I feel great respect for the people who have founded and built this company for years, intelligently, creatively, humanly and socially responsible so that we can now watch the culmination of acting, sports, dance, music, costume, scenography, makeup, wigs, organizational and technical achievements in one place - in each of their performances," says Jelena.

11.jpg

Artists who are part of the Cirque du Soleil program leave the biggest impression on the actress from Podgorica when it comes to this circus sensation.

"Their actors/clowns carry all the sadness and joy of this world at the same time," she says, adding that there are also incredible musicians and singers, dancers, and acrobats.

"Many Olympic and world champions in gymnastics are now their artists."

Because of the high degree of professionalism of each member of this circus troupe, she was not sure what to expect and what to hope for when it came to castings.

"But from the start, all the candidates got rid of their stage fright because the casting was led by humble, friendly and open people, who treated the candidates with respect and esteem. Their only request was to take the day to show them all we know and to have fun. This is the atmosphere to be desired when it comes to working on the scene, so my admiration and affection for Cirque du Soleil has reached a whole new level."

Now that she is part of the artist’s base in the Cirque du Soleil, Jelena regularly sends them video material and photos of everything new she is doing, and she can still expect an audition for a concrete project in the future - in case her profile is suitable for them.

Jelena says she is also available to all the artists from Montenegro who are interested in the future auditions of the Cirque du Soleil.

She showed all her skills in Paris

The audition of the Cirque du Soleil included application via e-mail, sending a video material showing the candidate’s skills, short video material on "why you want to be part of the Cirque," photos, and a biography.

"Everything I have stated as my skills at the casting I had the opportunity to show through the various tasks we had been given, independently, and in pairs and groups. We mostly did improvisations, which is inspirational and entertaining, but at the same time requires great concentration and relaxation," said Simic, adding that everything is quite complex when it is performed in a language that is not your mother tongue.

"The audition in Paris was announced to actors of the physical theatre, puppeteers and clowns, and I think my advantage was that I have experience in all three areas." She emphasizes that the years of running to various additional activities and training had paid off.

A boy from Pljevlja, Slobodan Markovic, is one of the best students in the final year of the private high school "Oswestry" in the town of the same name in England.

The school which borders with Wales, with a 612-year-old tradition, is one of the oldest educational establishments in England.

In addition to the British, there are also students from 27 other countries.

Eighteen-year-old Slobodan received the opportunity to be a member of this school two years ago when he, as a second-grade student of the Gymnasium in Pljevlja, applied for a scholarship through the NGO "London Bridge" at the HMC organization. Although the interest of Montenegrin high school scholars was great, he was elected for one of the scholarships. In addition, three more students from Montenegro attend this school and one student from Serbia. "The first few weeks were not easy for someone who went to school in Pljevlja. It was necessary for me to adapt to the lifestyle and the schedules in the education system. What I liked instantly was the friendly society," said Slobodan, who was seventeen when he came to England.

7.jpg

Slobodan is preparing for the final exam that is taken at the end of high school, and the grades he gets will be crucial for enrolling in some of the world's prestigious universities.

He has chosen to study economics, which he showed interest in during his stay in England.

After graduating from high school in England, he says that he will likely continue his schooling at one of the universities in Germany for which he has already applied.

He emphasizes that the British education system is significantly different from ours, which is not suitable for achieving the full potential of some students.

"Our educational system is well organized because it allows students a high level of general education partly due to a large number of subjects and the inclusion of social and natural sciences as well as arts and sports. However, the problem is that a large number of subjects, as well as the inability to have a choice, do not allow students to focus on a more detailed study of the areas in which they are successful and for which they are interested."

In High School in England, Slobodan studies four subjects that he has chosen - mathematics, chemistry, history and economics.

He says that there is about a dozen students in some of the classes.

"The school year begins in September, and this year will end on July 7th. We have three larger vacations - summer, winter and Easter, and a seven-day break at the half of each of the three semesters. We have six lessons from each of the subjects in one week. School begins at 8.20 pm and the class lasts for 60 minutes. After the first two classes we have a break of 20 minutes, then two more classes. From 1-2.30 p.m. it's time for lunch, then we have two more classes, and on Wednesdays two hours of sport. Schools are better equipped. Technology is used, the school has an online platform, and the online system has replaced diaries. We also use the Google classroom and all the students receive a notification when one of the professors uploads something to it," said Markovic, who was the student of the primary school "Ristan Pavlovic" in Pljevlja.

8.jpg

He is a member of the school's blues orchestra, composed of three professors and three students. Slobodan plays the guitar and sings.

When asked whether he thinks he will come back to Montenegro one day, he says he always likes to return to Pljevlja, but that currently there are better conditions for success abroad.

"Knowledge is much more appreciated here, and qualifications are much more valuable than in our country," Slobodan said, who was elected as one of the four student leaders of the school last year.

Slobodan followed the footsteps of his sister Milica who, after completing United World Colleges in Mostar, continued to study in America. She is currently working on her Ph.D. at the famous Harvard in Chemical Biology. Slobodan's older brother Dusan is studying pharmacy in Novi Sad.

Slobodan says that he is particularly grateful to his parents, mother Mira and father Zoran, a renowned doctor from Pljevlja, for the efforts they make to educate them.

Church on Sunday regardless of the religion

Every Sunday, students living in the boarding school go together to the church within the school area, regardless of their nationality and religion.

"Every Sunday at about 6 pm, students from the boarding school, one hundred of us, need to go to the church, regardless of the religion. We listen to the lectures from the Bible which I think is useful. The church is part of the school's tradition because it was founded when the church was the dominant sphere of life," Markovic points out, who lives in the boarding school with one hundred students.

Students are allowed to leave the boarding school to go to the town, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the condition that they are obliged to return by 10 p.m. Those who don't abide can be in custody, which means they are not allowed to leave the boarding school except for lunch and when going to school, says Slobodan. A punished student is also obligated to spend the whole day in the school uniform.
