November 28, 2018 - Montenegro is one of the 28 places recommended by National Geographic as the world’s most exciting destinations for the year ahead.

In the company of glorious landscapes, such as the Peruvian Amazon or Mozambique’s Gorongosa national park, or vibrant cities like Kansas City in Missouri or Mexico City, National Geographic propose Montenegro as a small country of amazing natural beauties and invites travellers to come here now with the message: “Let small countries grow on you.”

While most of the international media primarily promotes the Montenegrin coast with all its beauty and excitement, the National Geographic suggests our beautiful rivers and mountains, as well as the most significant sports manifestation Montenegro is hosting next year.

National Geographic on Montenegro

NatGeo writes on Montenegro: “The secret is out about Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, but head northwest to Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for off-the-beaten-path excursions. In this remote and thickly forested park in the Dinaric Alps, inspiring outings include high-adventure canyoneering; leisurely hikes to sparkling lakes; challenging summit climbs to 8,278-foot-high Bobotov Kuk, the tallest of Durmitor Massif’s peaks; and mesmerizing high-pasture views of grazing cattle and sheep. Durmitor’s biggest draw is Europe’s deepest gorge: the jaw-dropping 4,265-foot Tara River canyon. After conquering the mountains, head to coastal Budva for the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), May 27 to June 1. Montenegro is a first-time host of the biennial Olympics-style event, giving athletes from nine small nations—Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, San Marino, Malta, Monaco, Cyprus, and Montenegro—a better shot at going for gold.”

More and more international media is interested in Montenegro for its untouched natural areas and its variety of landscapes reachable within just a few days.  Being listed among 28 most exciting destinations in the world by the world’s most prominent publication writing about the beauty of our planet surely would support the need to recognize our natural and cultural heritage should be the central pillar of the future development of the country.

27 November 2018 - According to preliminary data, total tourism revenue will exceed 1 billion euros, Prime Minister Duško Marković said in the Parliament of Montenegro, adding that Montenegro has been setting tourism records one after the other.

"This is how it looks regarding figures: During the first nine months, our tourism industry saw over 2 million (2,002,229) tourists visits, an increase of 9.5% compared to the same period last year. In the same period, there were 12 million (11,981,004) overnights, which is 7% more compared to the same period of 2017. This year alone, 25 new hotel facilities have been opened, of which more than a half are 4 or 5-star hotels. The empowered sector of the hotel industry has created more than 1,000 new jobs in 2018. This will be the first year in the history of modern Montenegrin tourism in which millions of tourists will stay in the Montenegrin hotels, which is already, according to the MONSTAT data, 100,000 more than in the same period last year. The extraordinary trends in our tourism are also indicated by data on capacity utilisation of the Montenegrin airports. Namely, until 15 November, Montenegro Airlines transported nearly 600,000 passengers, which is the best result in the history of this company. On the other hand, the Airports of Montenegro served 250,000 passengers more than in the same period last year," the Prime Minister underscored.

The Prime Minister added there are more demanding tourists from EU countries, with the most significant increase in visits from Great Britain and Germany

"This means that our tourism industry develops, acquires new knowledge and competencies and becomes competitive in the region and beyond. Furthermore, this year we have witnessed that the postseason lasted considerably longer than previous years, i.e., that it lasted practically until the beginning of November, which is just another step towards achieving our goal of Montenegro becoming a year-round tourist destination," said the Prime Minister.

Speaking about tourism, PM Marković also stressed that in the past two years of the Government's mandate, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism had issued more than 60 building permits for 4 or 5-hotels.

"We are talking about investments of over EUR 400 million," the Prime Minister pointed out.

"I have to express my satisfaction with the dynamics of major projects in tourism: Porto Montenegro, Luštica Bay, Porto Novi, but also a series of smaller, equally high-quality initiatives, namely Iberostar hotels in Njivice and Perast, hotels Lazure in Meljine, as well as those in Ulcinj, such as the Karizma Hotels Group's projects on the Great Beach. However, the Government also invests in tourist capacities in the north of our country, and an investment in the large ski resort in Bjelasica continues. By the end of 2020, about EUR 70 million will be invested there. I expect that the "Kolašin 1600" sky centre will accept the first tourists in the coming days," Prime Minister Duško Marković noted. He concluded by saying that he is satisfied with the tourist season and the derived economic benefits, adding that he believes that we can do more and do better.

27 November 2018 - "The young people are our most important capital, and the Government is working every day to improve the conditions of studying, improve the quality of higher education and its harmonisation with the needs of the market," Minister of Sports Nikola Janović said at the opening of the European Student Union's Board Meeting 75.

The Minister said that the Government's efforts will consequently increase the employment of young people and educated people, and confirm that education is appreciated and that knowledge pays off.

"At the end of this process - our ambition is not hidden - Montenegrin youth will stay in Montenegro and contribute to its development in a manner consistent with global aspirations. This is, after all, one of the most important tasks that Prime Minister Duško Marković has set before the Government and institutions, to which the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Education made a high-quality contribution during the two-year mandate of the 41st Government of Montenegro," Minister Janović stressed.

Speaking about the European Student Union, the Minister said that the organisation which operates in 39 member states and gathers 20 million students has become the bearer of the struggle for better conditions of education, employment and improvement of student standards. "I believe that in the near future you will reach the expectations that you have set before you and your associations," the Minister said.

27 November 2018 - Around 50 international students from partner universities spend one academic year at the University of Montenegro through mobility programs. As the University reports, the majority of students come from Poland, Portugal, and Romania.

“Foreign students are usually interested in the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Philology, Art Academy and Faculty of Political Sciences. They usually stay in dormitories,” said the representatives of the University of Montenegro.

A user of one of such programs, Beatriz Santos Boa, from Portugal, talks about her experience in the country.

“I am a post-graduate in the field of political sciences and international relations. This place seemed to be a very safe country to live. I am delighted with my choice,” says Beatriz.

The best part as she says is that she learned more about the history of the country and its politics.

“In Portugal, the Balkans is not in the focus of attention, and therefore, coming to Montenegro was a lesson,” says Beatriz.

She has stayed in the country for five months, maximum period offered by the Erasmus program, but she fell in love with the country and she plans to come back.

“I would recommend Montenegro to every foreign student, since it is a beautiful country, with kind people, willing to help. Language barrier might be a problem, but with time, that can be resolved too. We managed to communicate effectively with the use of English and very limited knowledge of Montenegrin language,” says Beatriz.

Finally, Beatriz says that her stay in Montenegro was a never-to-be-forgotten experience.

November 28, 2018 - YC Delfin Tivat announced some great news recently- apart from the fact they’ve gained another chance to organize the Balkan Sailing Championship next year in September, a few days ago Delfin was confirmed to be the host of the European Sailing Championships for Laser Standard and Laser Radial up to age of 21 in summer of 2021!

In the Maritime Heritage Collection Porto Montenegro, a retrospective exhibition of the YC Delfin speaks the great story of decades of enthusiasm leading a small group of sailing lovers from beginners to winners. The inauguration ceremony was preceded by awarding the most successful contestants to the Tivat Day regatta, which sailed last weekend. To see the results, jump to the Montenegrin Sailing Association website.

The exhibition named “Navigare Necesse Est” is a retrospective of photographs, documents, cups, medals, as well as the designs and portions of the famous sailing ships constructed within the Shipping Society Delfin Tivat, later the YC Delfin, which writes its history since it was established in 1951.

The exhibition's head, coordinator of the Maritime Heritage Collection, Dražen Jovanovic, said that Delfin, being one of the most prolific Tivat clubs, has also been the bearer of the tradition and culture of this city's life for decades. Jovanovic recalled the great sailing ships Suton and Crnogorka, their creators and pioneers of Tivat sailing, but also the fact that Delfin's history is young when you look at the successes and perspectives of today's sailors of the club.

On behalf of the club, the audience was welcomed by the president, Frano Tripović, who among other things said: "The YC Delfin is not just a sports club but an informal educational club, and in this sense, apart from sports, has a very distinctive ecological and cultural component. We will work in the administration to expand and improve all of our capabilities. We came to organize the Balkan Championships next year in the fall, as well as the European Championship Race for the Laser Standard class up to 21 years, which will sail in 2021 in Tivat. The same facts say that sailing in Boka is very much alive and that besides the fact that we around the world, the world comes to us. Sailing in Boka Bay is a great, strong and positive story. As this exhibition’s name says- sailing is a necessity, so I invite everyone to come, to sail and to socialize with us," said Tripovic.

The exhibition officially opened by the President of the Tivat Municipality, Siniša Kusovac: "The club's history lies in the presented documents, proving the great club’s history for decades. The value of every sports club and every organization is reflected in the number of youth, the number of children. The YC Delfin attracts more and more children of this town every year. I particularly welcome them and congratulate them for choosing sailing because it is a sport that develops emotional and cognitive abilities of young people. It's one of the most demanding sports." Kusovac emphasized that the Tivat Municipality supports not only YC Delfin but also all the sports collectives of the city. He promised full support of local self-government in the organization of theBalkans Championship, as well as the European Championship regattas. "This is something that needs us to support and invest in it, that is something that is a true value," said Kusovac and declared the exhibition officially open.

Delfin has somehow symbolically returned to its place of birth, because in the Arsenal sawmills, today the Maritime Heritage Collections, the coral reefs and other parts for the first Delfin’s sailing ships were made, in the introductory speech marked the coordinator of the Maritime Heritage Collection Dražen Jovanović. He pointed out that this is the first, but indeed not the last, event organized by the Collection with YC Delfin. Porto Montenegro's PR Kristina Skanata has added that this “shore cooperation” comes as a logical continuation of years-long successful cooperation of local sailing club and this company at sea.

The club's history is getting longer every day. The best club competitors, in the company of the coach Ilija Klakor, left today for Split to do some training before the next competition, scheduled in Pula for the following weekend. There is a lot of work, but also a lot of success, marks the club's secretary, Aleksandra Janičić, who just came back from the European Sailing Federation technical meeting:

"At the General Assembly of the European Association for the Olympic Class Laser (EurILCA), which was held in Warsaw last weekend, Delfin was awarded the European Championships. In the competition of Italy and Greece, Montenegro and Tivat received 13 of 24 votes, and the race for the best sailors of the Old Continent up to 21 years old, in Olympic classes will be organized in Tivat in 2021. There is no dilemma that the European championship organization will be of immense importance for the promotion of sailing in Montenegro, as well as for the promotion of Montenegro as a tourist destination. Tivat and Montenegro will be the organizers of the 52nd Balkan Sailing Championships next year, which will be a truly spectacular bait and a great overture for the European championship that will follow," Aleksandra said.

26 November 2018 - Construction works on the bridge Moračica, the most demanding and complex facility on the priority section of the Bar-Boljare motorway, are being performed in line with the planned schedule.

There are around 150 workers on the construction site being engaged every single day.

China’s CRBC Company assessed the construction of the Moračica Bridge spanning structure will require around 30,000 cubic meters of concrete and over 5,000 tons of metal framework.

The most complex facility on the first section of the highway Bar-Boljari will be finished by April 2019.

“Because of its height, range, use of formwork, the bridge connects in the air. We are going to do console construction of the main carrier. We are going to lay concrete on both sides of pillars, simultaneously. Everything has to be balanced,” said Ivana Maksimović earlier this year, from the Department of technical preparation in Section I.

She also added that the bridge has been designed in such a way that it meets all standards and noted that if the speed of the wind reaches the limit that the company will stop the works.

Apart from this one, 19 more bridges will be built at the 41-kilometer long section.

Total Montenegro News wrote about the start of the works here and you can read more about Moračica bridge recent works here.
