May 16, 2018 - President of Montenegro and the Basketball Association president, Milo Đukanović, visited the construction site of the Sports Center Morača to attend the conference for the presentation of the reconstruction of the sports center project. The reconstruction of the Sports Center Morača was necessary to host numerous basketball teams during the EuroLeague.

The EuroLeague is the European-wide top-tier level professional basketball club competition that is organized by Euroleague Basketball Company. It is one of the most popular professional indoor sports leagues in the whole world. EuroLeague clubs will host their home EuroLeague games in arenas that have a seating capacity of a minimum of 5000 people.

Mr. Đukanović was proud to announce the future of the Sports Center Morača as the temple of Montenegrin basketball. 

"This will be the temple of Montenegrin basketball for the next 20 years and it is a pleasure that we can see that the works are going well, that the planned realization of the investment is by the end of this year and I believe that we will have new quality content of sports infrastructure for the development of sports in the capital city as well as in the whole country“. The President has also expressed great satisfaction with the role of the capital city in funding the project. He has explained that Podgorica has allocated significant funds for the maintenance and reconstruction of this valuable object of sports infrastructure.

„By signing a contract with the capital city, the Basketball Federation has committed to realizing an investment worth about 4,5 million EUR in cooperation with many different sponsors, who have provided funds in return for certain rights, all in the function of basketball sport“, said Mr. Đukanović.

The president of the Basketball Club „Budućnost“ who has qualified for EuroLeague, Dragan Bokan, also took part in the conference. Mr. Bokan announced that the reconstruction project would be complete by the end of August 2018. He also added that the EuroLeague leaders were delighted with the reconstruction works.  After the reconstruction of the Sports Center Morača will have a seating capacity of approximately 6000 people. The president of Basketball Club explained that the renovations would not stop just on adding additional seating: “As for other investments, a new parquet will be built, and the project includes court marking, renovation of the dressing rooms, air conditioning, new lighting and the construction of VIP lounges.”

The organizers have announced that the project will include new cameras which will be installed in the hall. The cameras will provide the possibility to watch games and concerts via the Internet. The hall will have the most modern light and computerized sound effects, and will also serve for organizing concerts of classical music.
