“I remain devoted to the struggle in changing the system, for the sake of Montenegro and its citizens. Thank you," said Blazic.

Professor Djordjije Blazic submitted a request to withdraw his candidacy for president in the elections scheduled for 15th April and expressed his support to the joint candidate.

“As I have stated many times, my aspiration to contribute to the unity of the opposition and in overcoming separations, in what seems to be a dramatic moment for our country, has always been the principal motivation for my candidacy. In the last ten days, most of the opposition’s parties have managed to make a compromise, and an agreement on a joint candidate has been achieved. In order to encourage possibilities for a change, I wish to inform the public that I have pulled out of my presidential candidacy and have given my support to the joint candidate," said Blazic, hoping that his choice, as stated, “would result in the expected and extremely required reforms in our country, which has never altered a government in a democratic manner so far”.

Since the commencement of the campaign, on 26th January, there were more than 8,000 signatures of support from the citizens for Blazic’s candidacy. The names of support were delivered to the State elections committee on Sunday, by Blazic.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who, by exposing themselves to risks and renunciations, provided me with their support – to the mothers, workers, students and all citizens. However, I ask them to understand the necessity to put the public and state interests above any other. I also expect all the party leaders to finally show during these elections that citizens’ interests should be ahead of their personal ones," said Blazic.

He also thanked the team for “the extraordinary organization and successful campaign, directed with symbolic funds and in almost impossible conditions”.

“I remain devoted to the struggle in changing the system, for the sake of Montenegro and its citizens, thank you," he said.

The candidate of DF, Democratic Montenegro, GP URA and SNP Mladen Bojanic thanked Blazic on the shown trust and votes of confidence.

“Knowing the burden of deciding to accept the candidacy, I can only assume how much inner strength is needed to give up and express public support to another candidate. The gesture by professor Blazic reassures me more than ever that at the end of these elections, we will celebrate a new beginning for Montenegro," announced Bojanic.
