January 21, 2019 - The parish church of St. Mary in Gornja Lastva, dating back to the 14th century, is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, celebrated on 8 September. Every year on this occasion, local people in the village organize a feast, because this day is celebrated as the forefather of all families since the consecration of the church in 1410. The present form of the church was given in the 16th century.

The baroque altar of the church of St. Mary, made of multicolored marble, earlier adorned the church on the island of Our Lady of Rocks in front of Perast. The inhabitants of Gornja Lastva bought it in the 18th century. Neighbors from Perast on this occasion donated the statue of Our Lady with the Little Jesus, very similar to the one in the Church of Our Lady of Rocks. The church boasts an extensive and valuable collection of relics, among which is particularly remarkable an altogether beautiful altarpiece with the image of the Virgin Mary born, believed to be the work of Venetian painter Andrea Trevisano.
