"We appeal to representatives of travel agencies to alert their clients on the rules regarding the validity of passports to avoid unpleasant situations at airports."

Officials employed at Montenegro airport have denied boarding to many Wizz Air and Ryan Air passengers, conducting local supervision services and introducing them to the validity of passports in the EU and other countries connected to Montenegro.

"We warn passengers to check when their travel document expires to avoid such situations," said the Airports of Montenegro. Low-budget companies have a strict policy to eliminate any risk of financial penalties due to the transportation of passengers with inadequate travel documents.

"Representatives of other companies are doing the same." We appeal to representatives of travel agencies to alert their clients on the rules regarding the validity of passports to avoid unpleasant situations at airports," they said. For visa-free travel to the EU Member States, passports of Montenegrin citizens must be valid for at least three months after the end of their planned stay at the territory of the state member.

"The same rule applies when traveling to Norway, Iceland and Switzerland because although they are not EU members, these countries are part of the Schengen area, so they apply the agreed rules of the Schengen", added the Airports of Montenegro.

Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania are not members of the Schengen zone, but this EU regulation also applies to them.

"Great Britain and Ireland are exceptions because they do not belong to the Schengen zone, but they apply the rules of their zone - the Common Travel Area (CTA) - so to travel to these countries, Montenegrin citizens need to have a visa or a residence permit,".

The visa-free regime for Montenegrin citizens is 90 days for 180 days, which means that the travel document must be valid for at least 150 days after entering Turkey.

Montenegrin citizens can enter, cross over and stay in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for up to 90 days with a valid visa-free travel document. The passport must be valid at least three months after the arrival to UAE.

"Citizens of Montenegro can stay in the Russian Federation without visas for up to 30 days, based on a valid travel document. There is no requirement regarding the validity of the passport," they stated.

Citizens of Montenegro can enter and stay in Ukraine without visas for up to 90 days, with the valid travel document. The passport must be valid when departing from Ukraine.

Montenegrin citizens holding a tourist voucher or a letter of invitation made following the national law and regulations of Belarus may enter, leave and stay in this state with a valid travel document without a visa for up to 30 days. There is no requirement regarding the validity of the passport.

Citizens of Montenegro must have a visa for entry to Azerbaijan. The passport must be valid for at least three months after leaving this country. "Citizens of Montenegro do not need a visa to enter Moldova for a stay of up to 90 days. The passport must be valid at least three months after the arrival in Moldova." Citizens of Montenegro do not need a visa for Israel. The passport must be valid when departing from Israel.
