Bogdanović: We Will Provide 100.000 Euros for Forte Mare

September 13, 2018 - The Minister of Culture, Aleksandar Bogdanović, with his associates paid a working visit to the Municipality of Herceg Novi and on that occasion, talked to the President of the Municipality Stevan Katić.

As reported by the Ministry of Culture, they estimated that there is good cooperation between this Ministry and the Municipality of Herceg Novi, but also recognize the space for further improvement and dynamism.

There were also talks about the appointment of Fortress Forte Mare for entry on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Bogdanović emphasized that, considering the cultural and historical significance of this fortress, for Herceg Novi, as well as Montenegro as a whole, the Ministry of Culture is paying particular attention to this issue in order to ensure fulfillment of all the conditions for this fortress with the status of cultural heritage to be found in the UNESCO list.

He added that the ministry, in its budget, provided 100,000 euros for carrying out conservation measures on the fortress and stressed the expectation that, in cooperation with the municipality, all required works would be carried out by next year. "The speakers stressed that the restoration of Kanli Kula Fortress, which was initiated in the past period by the Ministry of Culture, was of utmost importance. As the speakers considered, it is necessary to continue with the realization of the project given the current state of the cultural heritage. The speakers pointed out that the realization of the project was in the common interest of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Herceg Novi," the ministry said. During his meeting, Katić expressed the interest of the Municipality for turning Njegoš's school into a museum.

"Minister Bogdanović expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Culture to assist the Municipality, as the initiator and potential founder of this future cultural institution, in carrying out all the necessary activities, meeting the facilitators about all the legal procedures," the ministry said.

The Minister of Culture added that the Ministry will continue to support projects and programs in the field of cultural heritage and cultural and artistic creativity, and in the future, especially given the importance and scope of the Herceg Novi Film Festival, a festival of special importance for the culture of Montenegro.

He has emphasized the importance of establishing a state of affairs and the number of unidentified movable cultural goods or their elements located in museums in the territory of the Municipality of Herceg Novi.

"The Ministry of Culture will provide all the necessary support to the immediate establishment of the state of affairs in order to correct any eventual omission of local cultural institutions in the part of improper registers in a timely manner and in accordance with the law," said Bogdanovic.

During his visit he visited the "Town Library and reading room", Forte Mare fortress, Iva Andrić's house, Mirko Komnenović museum and the area of the planned museum "Njegoševa škola", where he talked with the directors and managers of these cultural objects about themes important for their further actions.


Bogdanovic pointed out that the Ministry of Culture is available to all cultural institutions, all in order to further develop the cultural life in Herceg Novi.
