August 31, 2018 - Head of the International Organization for Migration in Montenegro, Dušica Živković, commented on the request of the Embassy of Italy, that our country accepts part of migrants who came to Sicily by ship. She doesn’t see that as a solution since she thinks those people would still look for smuggling routes in order to reach some EU Member State.

“They wouldn’t stay for long in Montenegro, they aren’t interested in Montenegro. From the perspective of migrants and somebody who deals with them, I don’t see that as a solution," said Živković.

The problem would be much easier if some country had integration for migrants provided so that they can have all the necessary protection.

“Relocating people, without their own will, to the locations where they definitely don’t want to be is completely ineffective. Speaking from the human side, I don’t see it effective“, said Živković.

What could be the attitude of the executive power towards this situation? Živković said that the Government could do something they do every day, even if they accepted the request.

“The Government receives migrants from Albania. It’s not a big deal since we are talking about a small number of people”, said Živković and added that, for now, we don’t expect a great influx of migrants.
