Skadar Lake, the most extensive freshwater surface in Southeastern Europe, is a truly unique nature reserve. Thanks to the large distribution of wetland vegetation and waterfowl meadows, amphibian fauna widely inhabit the area. Within it, some endangered and protected species can be found today. A Skadar green toad is endemic, meaning it is unique to a defined geographic location. The toad's best song can be heard at twilight in early spring.
