28 July, 2018 - For the 32nd time in a row, Herceg Novi will host international film festival. Traditionally this event starts on August 1st and this year’s opening will be marked with the premiere of “Smuggling Hendrix” by Marios Piperides, which is current winner of the Tribeca Film Festival. The film festival in Herceg Novi will be opened by the legend of Yugoslav cinematography, actress Milena Dravić.

The film "Smuggling Hendrix" is shown in the Competition Selection of long-lasting film. The guests of the first night of the festival in Herceg Novi are the director of the film Marios Piperides and the producer of the movie Janine Teerling. After that, also on Kanli Kuli (Kanli Tower) the film "Diamantino" by two authors Abrantes and Schmidt will be screened. This film was awarded the Grand Prix Sunday criticism in Cannes.

The Herceg Novi Film Festival will be held until August 7th at the locations in Herceg Novi (Kanli Kula, Tvrđava Forte Mare, Mićo Pavlović Square, the garden of the house of Nobel Prize Winner Ivo Andrić, the grand hall of the Dvorana Park), as noted by the director of Herceg Fest Gordana Krcunović.

Mayor of Herceg Novi Stevan Katić spoke about the importance of the festival, which has the status of a manifestation of special importance for Montenegro.

"We are pleased and proud that the Film Festival, which founder is the city of Herceg Novi, is a manifestation of national significance for the culture of Montenegro, which year after year justifies this title, but also sets new standards and ranges," said Katić.

The Hereceg Municipality of Novi is one of the main sponsors, together with the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro, while the executive producer of the Festival is the Public Cultural Institution "Herceg Fest".

"Herceg Novi Municipality has provided 40% of the funds needed for the organisation of such a festival, which is 68,000 EUR. The Ministry of Culture provided 60 percent – 102,000 EUR," pointed out Katić.
