July 14, 2018 - Within the celebration of the anniversary of the Municipality of Topla in Herceg Novi, the Musem “Njegoš’s School”, which currently has 300 showpieces, has opened. As organizers and representatives of this museum noted, this is just the beginning and there is the possibility of expanding it with an inventory that is related to Njegoš and his stay in Herceg Novi.

Njegoš was a Bishop of Montenegro, poet, and philosopher whose works are widely considered some of the most important in Montenegrin literature and culture. He is most famous for the Montenegrin national heritage – book “The Mountain Wreath”, published back in 1847.

The museum serves as a reminder for citizens and tourists of the time of Njegoš's stay in Topla and Savina. Metropolitan Amfilohije opened the museum and recalled that other municipalities in Montenegro, as well as the state leadership headed by the President, should follow the path of Herceg Novi.

Priest representative of the church in the Boka Bay, Momčilo Krivokapić talked about the importance of this institution in the times when many neglect Njegoš’s work.

“Josip Tropović and the community of Topla formed a school, and its principal student was Rade Tomov, later Petar II Petrović Njegoš. Here he finished his education and gathered the beauty of the Boka, the gardens and the diversity of this people,” Krivokapić said.

He particularly emphasized the role and significance of Father Rada Bubanja who contributed that the Municipality of Topla became a proper place and corner for every believer and a benevolent guest, and concluded that the great thing about preserving the huge cultural treasure of Herceg Novi was preserved in Topla.

At the ceremony amongst many guests was Ambassador of Serbia Zoran Bingulac, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vinko Radovanović and many others. Also, the St. Sava choir entertained all the participants and visitors.
