July 12, 2018 - With the incentive measures of the Government of Montenegro and the line Ministry, as well as the increased awareness of local administrations and the diligent work of the beekeeping associations, Montenegrins can already talk about honey as a national brand, it was concluded at the twenty-second “Smell of Linden and Honey Festival” held in Cetinje.

The Mayor of the Old Royal Capital of Montenegro, Aleksandar Kašćelan, opened the manifestation at the Balšić market, which gathered around 40 exhibitors from Montenegro and the region. During his visit to the Festival, Mr Kašćelan concluded that there is always room for improvement, but that he believes that by working together Montenegrins can make an extra step in the production and placement of larger quantities of honey and honey products on the European market.

At the St. Peter’s day, July 12th, as this tradition requires, numerous beekeepers presented their products to Cetinje visitors, along with a varied artistic program. Within the festival, a rich cultural and artistic program was organized, featuring the legend of Montenegrin folk music Branka Šćepanović, the player of Montenegrin traditional instrument, gusle, Rajko Radović, Cultural and Artistic Society "Njegoš", the students of Elementary school "Njegoš" as well as the children from kindergarten "Zagorka Ivanović". On the stands of the exhibitors, all visitors could find honey from Mount Lovćen, sage’s honey, honey from Ljubotinj, mead, propolis, propolis drops, propolis spray, propolis balm, honey with black chocolate, bee wax etc.

The golden plaque for a special contribution to the development of beekeeping in the capital this year was given to the beekeeper Jovan Jovanović. This event, which was realized within the program "Summer in the Old Royal Capital", was organized by the Association of beekeepers Cetinje, with the support of the Capital of Cetinje, the Tourist Organization of the Old Royal Capital and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
