May 8, 2018 - Herceg Novi gets a new urban culture festival - MORŽ (Morski Ritam života- Marine Rhythm of Life). The organizers of the event are the culture news portal 'Herceg Novi Cool', owned by NGO Alternaut, and cafe bar Prostorija, in cooperation with the Montenegrin Cinematheque and with the support of the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi. The first edition of MORŽ will be held from June 1 to June 3, 2018, on the plateau in front of the café bar Prostorija, at the stairs that connect the city harbor Škver with the center of the old town.

MORŽ is conceived as a multimedia festival. In addition to documentaries and movies on the theme of sea life and the sea, within the festival, the public will have the opportunity to visit the collective exhibition of many visual artists and enjoy concerts of some of the most exquisite names of the Ex-Yu alternative music scene.

As part of the music program, MORŽ brings some of the most exciting and devoted names of musical creativity from the post-Yu space to present to the audience, and an exceptional songwriting scene that experiences the flourishing region, announced the cultural director Nebojsa Mandić.

"The name of the MORŽ festival is an acronym of the motley that drives us all together, and this is 'Morski ritam života- Marine Rhythm of Life'. Of course, we have also used the name of this sea animal, which has lovely features," explains Mandic. "Morž” in Montenegrin means “walrus”. "We wish to organize such events as a contribution to the extension of the tourist season. It is our wish, therefore, to distinguish between the content and the time of the festival, so that MORŽ will always be the first weekend in June."

As part of a program supported by the Montenegrin Cinematheque, every evening, the audience will be able to enjoy play and documentary films that have the theme or scenery of the sea. Sympathetic rarities and some of the most important achievements of world cinema will be shown under the stars on the most delightful Herceg Novi’s stairs, and the award-winning director Ivan Salatić from Herceg Novi has released his film "Yard" to be screened at the new town festival.

In the art program on the plateau in front of Prostorija, as part of a group exhibition that will present one of the possible cross-sections of the currently expansive and very rich regional sky of visual art, citizens of Herceg Novi and guests will be presented the works of some of the best and latest authors from the area of former Yugoslavia. Of the 15 artists who have confirmed their participation so far, Mandic pointed to the name of the Serbian author, Vanja Vikalo, but promises more information in the coming days.
