For some time, the only way to find a job in Montenegro was through personal connections, and yet, the chances were slim. Did this situation change over time? What are the current career opportunities in the country?

Yesterday, March 27th, the Employment Agency of Montenegro and the Investment and Development Fund organized an educational workshop called "Chance for a job" in the Podgorica parliament building. The focus was on the program for support of the development of entrepreneurship considering the disappointing unemployment data of 2018. According to them, the total registered unemployed number in the country is 47,240 which is 20.36% of the population, and every fifth of them is a citizen of the capital. The workshop aimed to establish the system of support for young and well educated Montenegrins which will encourage them to start their businesses and provide themselves with a job. Hopefully, this initiative will soon bear fruits in the form of easy and low-interest bank loans for new entrepreneurs.

Coincidentally, on the same day, a new Career Center opened its doors at Nova Dalmatinska street in Podgorica. Founded by HR Partners, StepUp Career Center is the first private organization in Montenegro offering support and expert advice for careers. The programs are specially designed for the needs of young people as well as people undergoing significant professional transitions to support them through innovative tests, individual interviews or group workshops.

Meanwhile, Montenegro's leading HR company WEON has announced its annual Career Days 2018 organized for the 3rd time with the support of the Addiko bank and the capital city administration. Tomorrow, the 29th of March at the Centre Ville hotel in Podgorica, young people between 14-24 years of age will get the opportunity to meet business entrepreneurs and representatives from Montenegro and the region and share their experiences. And the next day, leading Montenegrin companies will present over 500 open positions, seasonal jobs and opportunities for conducting professional practices at the Job & Practice Fair at the biggest shopping mall Delta City in Podgorica.

One of the companies participating in the Fair is the Lustica Development A.D. offering many positions at the soon-to-be-opened the Chedi Hotel in the sector of food & beverage, housekeeping, front office, finance & accounting and others. In addition to that, the company management is organizing an Open Day at their Tivat office on the 4th  of April in order to announce the Lustica employment plan for a forthcoming period and provide the possibility to meet the company HR representative.

The same week, another Tivat development project, the famous Porto Montenegro, is inviting those interested for the Resume & Interview Prep workshop on the 3rd of April. The workshop is open to all candidates looking to acquire skills and etiquette in preparation for future employment. As advertised, the workshop will include an interactive CV-writing exercise and will cover interview preparation. Booking a place is required by the 30th of March.

Traditionally, the Summer Job 2018 Fair is taking place for the 11th time in the Kotor Old town today, and in two days it will open in Bjelo Polje. The fair is organized by the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro in cooperation with students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management from Kotor. The Summer Job will bring together representatives of numerous hotels, hostels, restaurants, Work and Travel agencies, souvenir shops and other tourism entrepreneurs looking for seasonal employees.

It’s also nice to note that for the last couple of years, several online resources for job searches have been established in Montenegro, here are some of them:

www.prekoveze.me

www.zaposli.me

www.careerjet.me

www.klikdoposla.me

www.posao.crna.gora.me

All of them provide quite a long list of jobs by using a city/field filtering option as well as professional advising and coaching services.

Overlooking the situation, we can see certain reasons to believe that the unemployment statistics in Montenegro may improve in the near future.
