September 3, 2018 - From Montenegro's capital to Gusinje, which is located in the northeast of the country, taking the road through the Moraca canyon will take a bit longer than three hours - and quite frankly, that's quite a long time to cover a 200-kilometer distance. A new route is currently in operation, stretching across the territory of Albania, and the distance between the two towns is reduced to about 90 kilometers, writes Anadolija.

It is a completely unusual road that connects two parts of Montenegro and whose construction has allowed many tourists and travelers to get to know the natural beauties of Montenegro as well as of Northern Albania.

The idea of connecting Gusinje and Podgorica across Albania is several decades old. The promise is almost fulfilled, but not completely, because when the Montenegrin state completes its part of the deal at the border crossing of Grab to Dinosa, the distance between Podgorica and Gusinje will be 60 kilometers. The journey from Podgorica to Gusinje leads through the border crossing with Albania-Božaj. Soon after crossing the border, it turns to the left on the roundabout and there the journey starts, which is especially interesting for photographers, tourists, cyclists, and more.

The road is of great importance for the inhabitants of this part of Albania.

Two thirds of the road from Gusinje to Podgorica goes through the Albanian territory, and the local government has built it with the help of EU partners.
