Thematic Workshop on Cluster Establishment Held in Kotor

September 2, 2018 - Participants of the workshop representing the economic sector at the recently held Thematic Workshop on Cluster Establishment in the field of Tourism and Local food at the hall of the Cultural Center "Nikola Đurković", presented numerous difficulties they face in everyday business, as well as the methods for overcoming those difficulties in cooperation with local governments and state authorities.

Issues related to insufficiently developed road infrastructure, water supply problems, inadequate inspection control, unfair competition, problems with placing products on the market, unfair commercial practices, connecting producers with the tourism industry and many other difficulties have been highlighted during the workshop.

Participants of the workshop will, in cooperation with public sector representatives, take part in the activities of the project "BACAR" in the field of clustering in the future. The conclusion of all participants in the workshop is that the mentioned activities can lead to improvement of conditions for business through knowledge exchange, networking and getting familiar with examples of good practice from the region, which will be done in the upcoming period.

The thematic workshop on cluster establishment in the fields of tourism and local food was held in the hall of Kotor Cultural Center "Nikola Đurković" within IPA cross-border project "BACAR - Better Access to Growth: Clusters and Competitiveness – Networking on Adriatic Region".

The general project objective of the project BACAR is strengthening the institutional infrastructure and services to the SME sector with an aim to strengthen competitiveness through the building of the cluster approach in the following sectors: creative industry, tourism, and rural development. The theme of this workshop was to achieve better competitiveness in the tourism and local food sector of the Bay of Kotor and the wider environment through sectoral and cross-sectoral connections.

On behalf of the Municipality of Kotor, the workshop was opened by the project coordinator Vladimir Bujišić, secretary of the Municipal Secretariat for Entrepreneurship, Public Works, and Transport.

The workshop was hosted by clustering experts in the field of tourism and local food at the BACAR project Jelena Krivčević and Svetlana Vujičić.

The workshop was also attended by representatives from the field of tourism, food production and agriculture, representatives of local government bodies, Tourism Organisation of Kotor, Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
