July 15, 2018 - The Municipality of Herceg Novi defined and gave the programme task for the preliminary design of the bus station in Šištet and authorized the Agency for Construction and Development of Herceg Novi to develop the preliminary design in cooperation with Veljko Radulović.

Radulović is the designer of the best design solution, and the constructions are already underway. The decision to build a bus station was adopted back in December 2017, while the tender started 7 years ago. The main problem was, however, the location of the bus station, because many were discussing the strategic benefits of their own locations. The final chosen location is said to be positioned to focus on local and regional routes. It is located in the western part of the city, near the border with the Republic of Croatia, and close to the fast-paced highway that is being built in Sutorina.

“Given that the development of the design is ongoing, we cannot yet say the exact number of platforms and accompanying facilities, but what we know for sure is that the facility will meet the standards that a modern bus station has to offer. Bearing in mind that a pledge of more than 20.000 square meters is planned, there will be enough space for platforms, parking for buses, business premises and related facilities,” noted Stevan Katić, president of the Municipality of Herceg Novi.

Upon completion of the conceptual solution, the main project is to be followed, after which it will be known how much will cost the construction of the bus station. On this plot was given the possibility of building two basement floors, ground floor and two floors. In this way, Municipality of Herceg Novi will have a chance to build a bus station at once in maximum capacities or by phases, level by level.

Katić stated that only when the value of the investment is determined, they will decide whether to build it at its own expense or the Municipality of Herceg Novi will enter a public-private partnership.

"The municipality needs to build the Bus Station from its own funds. Certainly, a business plan will be made, but now everything suggests that this investment is absolutely cost-effective for the local government," said Katić.

The start of the construction depends on the completion of the project documentation itself, as well as the tender procedures that the local administration is obliged to implement for the selection of the contractor. Based on this, it depends whether the works will begin during this or during the next year.
