June 07, 2018 - In the following period, the Municipality of Herceg Novi will have intensive cooperation with the team of the Innovation Entrepreneurship Center “Tehnopolis”, regarding designing and implementing measures for encouraging local entrepreneurship through organizing training and workshops, as well as providing non-refundable financial support, following the possibilities within this year's budget, stated the report by the representatives of the Herceg Novi Municipality.

Innovation - Entrepreneurship Center “Tehnopolis” is the first part of the planned capital project of Scientific and Technological Park (STP) in Montenegro. Tehnopolis was founded on September 17th, 2016 in Nikšić, by the Government of Montenegro. The establishment of the Scientific and Technological Park (STP) in Podgorica, a joint project of the Ministry of Science and the University of Montenegro, is one of the strategic priorities of the Government of Montenegro. The main goal of the STP is to unify entrepreneurial, innovative, scientific and economic capacities and establish a strong link with local and regional business centers, incubators and clusters. Innovation - Entrepreneurship Center “Tehnopolis”, the first part of the implementation of the STP, is planning to contribute to the socio-economic development of the local and regional community through the establishment of new and the development of existing micro and small enterprises that base their business on specific knowledge, skills or advanced technology.

The Secretary for tourism, economic development and investments, Ms. Suzana Memarović, visited the Innovation - Entrepreneurship Center “Tehnopolis” on the 6th of June, 2018. Ms. Memarović was hosted by the manager of investment department of Tehnopolis, Ms. Branka Mračević. According to their reports, the visit to “Tehnopolis“ was motivated by the intention of the Secretariat of the Municipality to pay particular attention to the development of entrepreneurship at the local level in the following period, and to prepare an intensive program of support for everyone interested in starting a business or developing an existing one.

The purpose of the meeting was also the presentation of the progress “Tehnopolis” has made within the areas such as: raising awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship as a key competence for the development of micro and small enterprises, promoting innovation as an important factor for the development of enterprises, transfer of knowledge and examples of good practice from the region and Europe aimed at the development of the local economy, forming a network of institutions, businessmen, and individuals who will support all potential entrepreneurs, newly established and already established companies, etc. Business Incubator Manager of “Tehnopolis Jelena Đedović, Program and Entrepreneurship development Manager Đorđije Brkuljan and Project and Entrepreneurship development Manager Aleksandar Janičić presented positive experiences and practices in the past period by "Tehnopolis".

“Strengthening and encouraging entrepreneurship in municipalities is one of the key preconditions for sustainable development, and this is also one of the biggest challenges for local governments. In this regard, the Secretariat intends to provide significant funds in the next year for supporting entrepreneurship at the local level," stated the report. At the closing remarks of the meeting, the possibilities for cooperation on projects financed by international donors and joint activities were considered, and a partnership has been agreed upon at the invitation of the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program.
