21 August 2018 - "Podgorica is becoming a more attractive and more visited tourist destination every day and I want to express special satisfaction with the trend of growth of tourist attendance and overnight stays, but also with the profile of tourists and guests who reside in our capital," said the Mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, at a meeting with representatives of the Tourist Organization of Podgorica

He assessed that within one segment of the tourist offer they should continue with currently positive activities, but he pointed out the necessity to intensify certain aspects of the tourist offer in order to make the Montenegrin capital even more recognizable and visited. He added that there is plenty of room for further progress and valorization of Podgorica's potential for tourist purposes.

The Mayor stressed that, in addition to the Tourist Organization, other city services should be proactive when it comes to the realisation of concrete activities that contribute to the greater tourist offer and promotion of the overall tourism development within the capital, because this is very important, not only for Podgorica but also for Montenegro as a country.

The director of the Tourist Organisation of Podgorica, Tatjana Popović, representing the activities and projects implemented and realised by the organisation, highlighted that she is satisfied with the progress in the overall tourist offer of Podgorica and expressed the belief that in the coming period they will be adding more interesting content and organized events which will contribute to a bigger and better quality tourist offer of the city.

Popović stressed that in the first half of this year, compared to the previous one, the number of tourists who visited Podgorica increased by 31%, and there was also an exceptional 15% growth in the number of overnight stays.

She highlighted that in the coming period it is necessary to work even more intensively on the collection of membership contributions and residence tax, as well as the legalization of accommodation, which would create the necessary prerequisites for an even more diverse tourist offer of Podgorica.
