“Strong dedication to sustainable development and our development policies is seen, among other things, in the fact the Montenegro is one of the first countries which integrated the Agenda 2030 in its National Sustainable Development Strategy, as well as transferring goals to the national level,” said Darmanović

Montenegro is a constructive and reliable partner of the United Nations (UN), said UN General Assembly President Miroslav Lajčak in a conversation with Montenegro chief of diplomacy Srđan Darmanović. Darmanović took part in an open debate of the UN Security Council in New York on youth, peace and security.

Reports state Darmanović held a separate meeting with Lajčak and noted Montenegro is ready to constructively and actively contribute to the realization of the priorities of the current session. He added Montenegro is committed to the fundamental values of the UN and to respecting the UN Charter and international commitments, as well as completing goals defined in the Agenda 2030.

Darmanović rated that, within efforts directed at the preservation of international peace and security, an accent needs to be placed upon prevention, peacetime methods and diplomatic means as the best method of permanently resolving conflicts.

Lajčak stated he is content with the quality and substance of Montenegro and UN cooperation, an example of an efficient partnership. Lajčak rated Montenegro is a constructive and reliable partner both in the Western Balkan and in the international community.

Speaking at the debate, Darmanović said youth across the world can contribute significantly to the preservation of peace and stability and emphasized they need to play an important part of that process and participate intensely in social, political, economic and cultural development.

He stated continuous and solid work at all levels is required in order to raise awareness among youth and present them the rights and options they have. “Montenegro supports all efforts directed at the resolution of needs and priorities of the youth and proposing sustainable solutions for their problems,” added Darmanović.

He is convinced that investing in youth is the best investment for the stability and prosperity of the Montenegro society. Darmanović concluded the issue of youth, peace and security demand joint actions and stated Montenegro will continue to be a reliable partner in attempts to create a space for the contribution of youth to peace and security.
