The potpisi.dik.co.me web application, through which citizens can check whether their personal data are misused to support one of the presidential candidates, is available as of yesterday afternoon. Citizens can check whether they have signed someone’s candidacy. This is very important, said the State Election Commission (DIK) secretary Veljo Cadjenovic.

He explained that the Law on the Election of Councillors and MPs allows a citizen to support only one electoral list or candidacy.

“Even under Article 116 of the Law, it is punishable if a citizen signs more than list of support. In that case, the fines range from €500 to €2,000,” said Cadjenovic.

As he added, the DIK has no legal basis to initiate proceedings if one’s signature is abused.

After launching the potpisi.dik.co.me web application, the Centre for Democratic Transition (CDT) received information from several citizens who suspect that their data were misused to support presidential candidates.

“CDT will submit all collected information and facts to the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office. We invite the authorities to perform a swift operation and determine whether there are elements of the criminal offense in these cases. We urge citizens to do their utmost to check whether their data are misused and inform the competent prosecutor’s office or CDT on the email This email address is being protected from spambots.
