"CEMI supports and encourages this applicative solution, which enables citizens to check if their signature and ID number have been distorted for the sake of certain political candidate."

The application of signature control, announced by the Sate Electoral Committee (DIK), can contribute to regaining the citizens’ trust in the electoral process, but does not make an institution irresponsible for checking the credibility of the collected signatures, as stated from the Center for Monitoring and Research (CEMI).

At the meeting, DIK defined the applicable solution for controlling if the elector, with his own signature, supported a specific candidate for the president of Montenegro, which will be realized in the next few days and available to citizens on the website.

The application of this system for signature control can significantly reduce the possibility for malpractice by political candidates in the electoral process, CEMI stated.

“CEMI supports and encourages this applicative solution, which enables citizens to check if their signature and ID number have been distorted for the sake of certain political candidate," said the announcement.

CEMI evaluated that the application can contribute to increasing citizens’ trust in the electoral process.

On the other hand, we must keep in mind that this solution is not enough, and that DIK must take the role of an institution that checks the credibility of the collected signatures becoming an active participant of the pre-electoral process, through control of regularities in submitted electoral acts," concluded the announcement.
