The Ministry announced a revision of the previously stated early retirement.

It is still too early to know what specific alternations will be applied in the Law on pension and disability insurance, said the Ministry of Labor and Social Care, replying to the question on potential changes in the age of retirement, which defines that women and men can retire at the age of 67 from 2023.

The Ministry only announced the revision of the previously stated early retirement.

“The alternations and addendums to the Law on pension and disability insurance are designed to take place in the fourth quarter of this year, following the Government’s program. Therefore, it is still early to talk about what specific alternations will be applied. In any case, to sustain the pension system and have more fairness, the alternations will be related to review the legal conditions enabling earlier retirement. These will be directed to prevent early walkouts from the labor market and early retirement," said the Ministry.

According to the valid Law in Montenegro, until 2023, the terms of retirement for both women and men will be equal, i.e. at the age of 67.

This year, as per an intermediate solution, men are allowed to retire at the age of 65 and eight months and with at least 15 years of labor, while women can at the age of 61 awith at least 15 years of labor, i.e. 56 years and 36 years of labor insurance.

Every year the condition related to the age for retirement increases three months.
