July 15, 2018 - National parks are areas of special beauty and significant and rare natural phenomena. They constitute an ecological and geographical entity that is separated and protected by a separate law. Montenegro is the home of five national parks: Durmitor, Biogradska Gora, Skadar Lake, Lovćen and Prokletije, which make up 7,58% of the country’s territory. Each national park is characterized by a specific natural and cultural heritage. The parks are managed by the National Parks of Montenegro government agency (Montenegrin: Nacionalni parkovi Crne Gore).

According to the reports of Montenegrin Chamber of Economy, from the beginning of this year, the Montenegrin national parks were visited by 100,000 visitors, which is about 20% more in comparison to the same period last year. The company that manages these natural resources expects that the number of visitors will continue to increase and that this will be another record tourist season.

The Chamber of Economy also published a statement of the representative of National Parks of Montenegro: “The most attractive tourist offer is certainly rafting on wooden rafts, as well as rafting with rubber boats on the River Tara, hiking and cycling, fishing and cruising on Lake Skadar, a walk through Ivanova korita, the visit to Njegoš’s Mausoleum on Mount Lovćen, a tour around Montenegrin mountain lakes, especially walking paths around Crno Lake, Biogradsko Lake or the Lake of Hrid.”

“When it comes to accommodation, bungalows on Mount Lovćen and Biogradska gora are ready for visitors. The national park entry fee for National parks Durmitor and Biogradska gora is 3 EUR. The parks have built hiking and biking trails. For the area from the Ramsar list, which is also a cross-border protected area of nature, NP Skadar Lake, the entrance is 4 EUR. The entrance fee for NP Lovćen 2 EUR, and for the youngest national park in Montenegro, NP Prokletije the entrance fee is only 1 EUR. Entrance to all national parks is free for children up to seven years old,” as stated in the reports of the Chamber of Economy.
