13 October 2018 - The outcome of negotiations between the representatives of trade unions and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare related to the proposal for amendments to the pension and disability insurance law was a new suggestion to prescribe a state pension age of 61 for getting a pension with 40 years of experience.

This is a slight improvement, as the trade unions’ representatives earlier required 40 years of experience to be the only prerequisite for a person to retire. Also, it was proposed women should reach the state pension age at 64 and men at 66.

The president of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro, Srđa Keković, said at yesterday’s press conference that of the 4 key negotiating proposals, they had 3 completely new ones aiming to correct certain mistakes from the 2003 pension reform system.

According to him, labor minister Kemal Purišić promised to provide funds in next year’s budget, in order to increase the lowest state pension, so it is expected it would range from 140 EUR to 155 EUR, depending on the available budget funds.
