August 19, 2018 - For the majority of the tourists in Bar, the most popular vacation photo spot in this municipality has, until recently, been sandy beaches, Old Bar and Old Olives, King Nikola's Castle, yachts in the marina, Nulti kilometer, mostly taken at zero altitudes during the summer.

Insight into the luxurious coastal pictures becomes increasingly popular from the birds-eye perspective, from the mountain mass of Rumija that divides the sweet and salty water in Bar-Skadar Lake and the Adriatic Sea.

Thanks to trekking, the ever more popular recreational discipline, the slopes and hills of Rumija and Lisinja are increasingly visited by nature lovers, as well as for active vacationers.

"Hiking groups in Rumija are very big - 'Montenegro photo trekking' has led a group of two buses, 100 people, to one of the most difficult tours organized here because of the high altitude difference - from Donji Murići to the lakeside to the very top, then up to Old Bar, which is almost three thousand meters in height difference," as explained by one of the most active mountaineers-trekkers in Bar Danilo Dado Pavlović, a member of the mountaineering association “Montenegrin photo trekking”.

The term trekking implies climbing and hiking on longer routes.

"When a trekker goes to the mountain, they have to get dressed as comfortable as possible and wear cozy boots. They carry food, water, sticks, sun protection caps, creams and sunglasses because the skin burns fast at a high altitude. The backpack should also contain changing clothes and protection from rain, and the battery of the mobile phone should be full in any case, not just for photographing," says Pavlovic.

Pavlovic adds that trekking is a stroll in nature.

Since 2006 when the routes on the Coastal-mountainous transversal (PPT) Orjen-Lovćen-Rumija were set up, the rocky hinterland of the Montenegrin riviera has become more and more attractive for the European tourists - mountaineers, very mobile, and the dynamic tourist population, in which, between the words "active" and "rest", stands a sign of equality. Transversal at the same time enriches the tourist offer and promotes hiking as a healthy and fun way to explore Montenegro all year round. The East-Bar portal of the transversal is in the village Lunje on the slopes of Lisinja, seven kilometers from Bar-Ulcinj highway.

"Foreign trekkers who came to Montenegro to hike, mainly come in the summer and go there alone, eventually find a guide, especially to the north. Our modern trekker goes to the mountain to take an attractive photo, and people who really love the mountain look for rest from everyday duties, noise, stress. I say this on the basis of my personal experience, every Sunday I'm on the mountain, six days I am working, and the seventh day 'I'm resting the brain', with nothing to think about, just enjoying such moments," said Pavlović, who works as an ophthalmologist.

138 kilometers is the total length of the Coastal-Mountaineer Transversals (PPT) Orjen-Lovćen-Rumija, and experienced mountaineers claim that it can be passed in 10 days. The route is divided into six sectors - Orjen, Boka Kotor bay, Lovćen, Paštrovački, Crmnički and Rumijski, with 15 checkpoints and three mountaintops.

For the main mountain hiking trails in Bar, he says that they are well-marked and that "Sutorman is not so attractive for hiking."
