"Theatre City" Festival, Budva has signed the contract for the TOURNEE project (Theatres for tourism development in Europe) under the first call of the IPA programme of cross-border co-operation for Italy, Albania and Montenegro 2014-2020, funded by the European Union.
The kick-off meeting was attended by representatives of project partners from the City of Fier, the project manager of the public theatre region of Puglia, representatives of the council of Tirana from Directorate for culture and tourism, and director of the town theatre Milena Lubarda Marojević. During the meeting, they defined the deadlines for the implementation of specific activities and elected members of the steering board.
The overall goal of the project is to establish close co-operation between crucial actors in the theatre sector of the border area through the creation of innovative cultural products and better valorization of the culture of a tourist destination. During the implementation of the project, they will establish a creative, strategic model of development and promoting role of theatrical institutions as the primary tool for the tourism and economic growth.
In post-communist societies, art is often considered as a not-for-profit activity, and for this reason, The TOURNEE project aims to show that culture can be a crucial resource towards the destination's competitive advantage on the market.
The project also focuses on the organization of the festival, given that this kind of event has an essential role in cultural tourism, offering unique value to visiting tourists.
The municipality of Budva, as a partner on this project, will provide support for project activities and dissemination of the results with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of the role of theatre in the entire sustainable development of the city.
On this project, the partners of the town of theatre are Budva, Fier (Albania), Barletta (Italy), Tirana (Albania).
