April 27, 2018 - The “15th EADV Spring Symposium" organized by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology, will be held at the congress centers of Hotel Splendid and Hotel Mediteran in Bečići, Budva from May 3-6, 2018. The opening ceremony will take place at the hotel Splendid open-air swimming pool on May 3, 2018, at 18.00.

"More than 1,700 dermatologist physicians from around the world will attend the congress, and lectures will be held by the most prominent professionals from Europe and the world. This will be the largest scientific gathering organized so far in Montenegro, which is a great success for the dermatologists of our country and the region, as well as the medical sciences in Montenegro, " said Dr Predrag Štilet, president of the Association of Dermato-venerology of Montenegro and the Chairman of the 2018 EADC Spring Symposium.

“Two years ago, as president of the “Montenegrin Association of Dermato- venerology,” I sent the application to EADV. Our country was chosen to be the host of the “15th EADV Spring Symposium”, by a secret voting of the Board of Directors at the EADV meeting in Athens in 2016," explains Dr. Stilet, member of EADV Board of Directors as well.

In the last two decades, Dr. Stilet organized several expert and scientific meetings in Montenegro, gathering dermatologists and venerologists from Montenegro and Serbia, but also specialists from the region. In his organization, for the first time since the collapse of Yugoslavia, specialists from all former republics met in Montenegro,  which was also acknowledged and welcomed by the EADV Academy, linking specialists from 35 European countries.

"I have devoted myself to getting together dermatologists in Serbia and Montenegro firstly, and then reach broader, realizing that’s the only way for us to continue with the constant education and strengthening of science in our country. Because of these gatherings, Montenegro is recognized as a dermatological destination, although in our country there are only fifteen dermatologists. Initial meetings primarily served to thank our colleagues from Serbia, who always provided us with access to educational programmes in their organization. After Montenegro gained independence, the Montenegrin Association of Dermatovenerologists was formed. We organized the first, the second, and the third congress, recognized by the scientific community in the region, which was followed by the organization of two anti-aging congresses. After that, for the first time in 19 years, the Montenegrin Association of Dermatovenerology managed to gather together dermatologists from all the countries of the former Yugoslavia. Right after this scientific gathering, I was honored to become a member of the Board of Directors of EADV, which opened up the opportunity to try and do something more for my country. Since Montenegro does not have a congress center, in agreement with the hotels Splendid and Mediteran, which have their own congress centers of sufficient capacity, I have found a solution that could be met by the organizers. So, it was decided in Athens in 2016 that the EADV 2018 Spring Symposium, for which Portugal and Iceland also applied, will be hosted in Montenegro. For me, it is a great honor and pleasure that a small country like ours gets to organize such a large and significant scientific gathering. I think this is important not only for Montenegro but also for the region because it offers many colleagues a chance to listen to and learn from eminent experts from around the world," the Chairman of the 15th AEDV Spring Symposium proudly underlined.

Founded in 1987, EADV is a non-profit association whose mission is to advance excellence in clinical care, research, education and training in the field of dermatology and venereology and to act as advocates and educators of patients, especially those with cutaneous or venereal diseases.

"The program of this year's Symposium covers a wide range of practical, relevant subjects, including eczema, skin cancer, dermoscopy, infectious diseases and sexually transmitted diseases. The plenary lectures and what's new session will provide further highlights, addressing among others, melanoma, acne and rosacea, and pediatric dermatology. The Scientific Programming Committee has worked hard to engage the best speakers with interesting contemporary topics, so that the needs and expectations of both the young and the experienced dermatologists and venerologists are fully covered," announced the chairman of EADV, Professor Luca Borradori in welcoming address to the participants of the Symposium, inviting them to a scientific meeting in Montenegro, described as "a small country with a rich and colorful history dating back to the Roman Empire". Professor Borradori underlined the great effort and commitment of Dr. Stilet, "whose enthusiasm and drive will surely make this event an unforgettable experience for everyone."

“We hope that this Symposium will continue the successful tradition of the previous ones and that it will allow clinicians to share their professional knowledge and skills, to discuss and express their views on a variety of topics that relate not only to the quality and organization of work, but also the social and economic interests of Dermato-Venereology in Europe. It will be an opportunity to exchange ideas that will be helpful in solving our daily concerns using the available health system institutions,” concluded the Chairman of the 15th EADV Spring Symposium, Dr. Predrag Stilet.
