Herceg Novi Plants Mimosa Trees

May 31, 2018 - Herceg Novi was well known for his mimosa trees across the region of former Yugoslavia. Every February a caravan called "Mimosa Festival" traveled all parts of Yugoslavia to invite people to visit winter festivities in the town.  The municipality of Herceg Novi is doing its best to continue this tradition.

The Secretariat or Utility Activities, Ecology and Energy Efficiency and the Herceg Novi Construction and Development Agency, is implementing the action.

As the director of the Agency for construction and development of the city, Boro Lučić said, by the circumstances of the reconstruction of the walking path in Igalo, conditions have been created for planting 19 new mimosa trees on the route from the former hotel Tamaris to Zeus building. The rest will be on the promenade.

- With this Igalo will receive 30 mimosa trees in the town center, which is only an initial step to restore the city status of the town of Mimosa - said Lucic

Also, as part of the campaign to plant this part of the city on several locations, cypresses and magnolia will be planted during these days.

It is worth mentioning that in the past four months 60 citizens applied for and requested free mimosa seedlings, at the initiative and invitation of the Municipality that provides seedlings to solve the long-standing problem of reducing the number of mimosa trees along the Herzegovinian Riviera. This action takes place so Herceg Novi can mark the 50th jubilee Festival of Mimosa with an enlarged mimosa fund.
