Not all of the restaurants in Montenegro provide a menu in English, especially in those less popular among tourists and less crowded areas. Dalmatinsko varivo is a word combination you may find on almost any food list. But what is it?

First of all, this is a garnish. A beautiful, garlic smelling garnish which is served mainly with fish. The base of the garnish are potatoes, but the initial taste comes from the stewed green leaves called "blitva". Blitva is a sort of Mangold which is very popular in the Adriatic coastal area where it can grow year round. Stewed together with pre-cooked potatoes and seasoned with garlic and olive oil, the leaves become very tender and delicate garnish for grilled fish and seafood. So, don't hesitate and order this classic Dalmatian combination.
