17 October 2018 - The World Economic Forum published the Global Competitiveness Report 2018, which analyses the competitiveness of economies in 140 countries around the world.

On this year's list of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Montenegro comes in at 71st place, compared to the 73rd place last year. The Index covers 12 areas, i.e. 12 pillars, which are considered to be of particular importance and impact on the competitiveness of a country. The results achieved in the field of labour market were particularly recognised.

When it comes to the countries of the region, Slovenia comes in at 35th place, Serbia 65th, Croatia 68th, Albania 76th, Macedonia 84th and Bosnia and Herzegovina 91st place.

The top ten economies in the world from the aspect of competitiveness are the USA, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Sweden, and Denmark.

Alongside the World's Bank Ease of Doing Business Index and the Fraser Institute Report and Montenegro's credit rating by the credit agencies S&P and Moody's, the 2018 Global Competitiveness Index is another confirmation of the reform efforts of the Montenegrin Government in maintaining stable public finances, strengthening the competitive position and implementing the measures envisaged by the fiscal strategy.
