July 26, 2018 - The underwater cable between Montenegro and Italy will be ready for commercial use by the middle of next year, said the managing director of the Italian company Terna Luiđi Feraris after the meeting with the Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović.

"The project is being carried out according to the plan. I believe that by the end of next year the cable will be put into use. The project is strategically important for this region because it is the first interconnection of Montenegro with Italy and Europe. The project will contribute to the future development of the infrastructure in the region as well as growth in the tourism sector," said Feraris.

Katja Bastioli, the chairman of Terna, said that Djukanovic's visit to Italy and their company was of historic importance for relations between the two states and an honor for Terna. She stressed that the project, which is being built as a result of strong bilateral cooperation between Italy and Montenegro, as well as the Agreement on the Strategic collaboration of the two states, i.e. the Ministry of Economy, CGES and TERNA.

"This energy-efficient, innovative and sustainable connection represents a powerful contribution to the integration of ZB region into European flows. The Underwater Cable Facility is the energy bridge between Italy and the Balkans, and it is beneficial both to the two countries and the entire Balkan region," said Bastioli.

"The underwater cable is one of the key links for integrating the region into Europe, because it is crucial to improve links in the domain of traffic, energy and information technology. The completion of the project is clearly visible and we can be proud of the fact that we have achieved an important link in the strategic integration of the Balkans," said Djukanovic, adding that it was also an incentive to open the prospect of further cooperation with Terna and the entire investment community from Italy and Europe.
