At the introductory speech, Nikola Vujosevic, Advisor at the Ministry of Economy, presented the conclusions of the working group conference on S3 smart specialties related to the metallurgy sector. He said that among the comparative advantages of this sector, the following ones were identified: quality staff with experience, tradition in this type of industry, infrastructure (which needs improvement) and natural resources. Investments in Montenegro are an opportunity and challenge for this sector because domestic companies can engage in their realization. Among them is the construction of a highway that can initiate the creation of new products in this sector, such as safety traffic barriers and signs to equip these and future roads. It is also possible to develop plants for the production of alloys, logs, processing of steel and a variety of profiles, gearboxes, structures for halls, for which infrastructure already exists.

“Smart Specialization is the interesting industry of building materials in a classical, but yet new and innovative way, based on the procession of the ash from the Thermal Power Plant or red mud from KAP. The need to train the economy for such projects that would be of great use in the next stages of the construction of the highway is very high,” said Biljana Scepanovic, coordinator of the Working Group for the Construction Sector, emphasizing also the need to strengthen the link between education and economy in order to attract the employees that graduated from high schools.

By this occasion, Slovenian expert Mariana Majeric said that the European Union, through a smart strategy, sees the space for cooperation with its new members and candidates. She invited business representatives to give as many suggestions as possible on this strategy, as this would contribute to the quality of the document.
