September 3, 2018 - The accommodation capacities in Ulcinj are currently completely filled, and the head office of Ulcinj Municipality expects that the successful season will continue for at least several days. The President of the Ulcinj Municipality, Ljoro Nrekić, announced that he disagrees with all experts who say that the high tourist season lasts for 20 days only. In Ulcinj, the season lasted longer than the previous one, according to the data of numerous employees within the tourism sector, and the official statistical data shows that in some aspects, this season is better than the previous one.

The President of Ulcinj Municipality feels regretful that the Municipality had only a short time to prepare for the tourist season, due to the change of the president of the municipality. With such changes that influenced the whole organisation of the city’s tourist offer, it was necessary to harmonize all the factors that influence the tourist season, but the President reports that the head office is satisfied with the achieved results.

Next year will be much better, as they announced. “We are currently working on improvements for the future period and for the next tourist season as well. Yesterday, we had a board meeting for the planning of the tourist season, where all the leading people whose jobs influence the tourist season took part. I asked them to give me remarks if they have any, as well as propositions and plans on how and what activities and programs to implement to improve 2019 tourist season.”

As for the plans for next season, much higher revenue from tourism is expected because there are numerous irregularities that will be corrected in the future, the head office announced. One example of such irregularities is avoiding the payment of taxes. From September, the President of Ulcinj Municipality announced the work on implementing new content and presenting new values for tourists. Also, he added that the head office must put an effort in alignment with legal norms.

The numerous problems that have been inconveniencing Ulcinj’s tourists and locals for years have been noted by the new President. He said that he finds the frequency of traffic from the Great Beach to the city, as well as the parking space issue to be serious problems which will be resolved in the future. "All the parking lots that are on the municipal land will be taken by the municipality. I have already issued an order to notify me of all places where urban parking lots are planned for which we already have investors," he said.

The President of the Tourist Organisation of Ulcinj, Fatmir Đeka, announced they were mostly satisfied with the tourist season, even though they had higher expectations. According to the official statistical data from the Tourist Organisation, the majority of tourists in Ulcinj were from Serbia (20%), then from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the third place are tourists from Kosovo.

From the Tourist Organisation, they also announced that the residence tax income was higher by 6% compared to last year. This year’s residence tax income was 340,835 EUR, while on the same day last year they had an income of 320,000 EUR.
