July 13, 2018 - The town of Herceg Novi will host the first open championship and the national beach volleyball championship in the next two days – July 14 to 15. The main event will take place on the grounds of the Sports Centre Igalo.
For the first competition of this kind in Montenegro, ten teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro applied for participation. The tournament will begin on Saturday at 5 PM when a match will be played in the competition of young boys and girls. After this game, starting at 6 PM a competition amongst women will take place, where two teams coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina and two teams coming from Montenegro will fight for the throne. The final is scheduled to start at 8.30 PM. On Sunday, July 15, the men’s tournament is scheduled, which will start at 10 AM, while the final match in the male category is set for 6.30 PM on Sunday.
Due to the initiative of the Director of the Sports Center Igalo, Radovan Ralević, the adaptation and arrangement of the field for beach volleyball has recently begun, which is not finished and in accordance to all standards for national competitions. Ralević also pointed out that this is a competition that serves as an overture to the planned Municipal League.
“The idea is to start a new story and to activate this Olympic sport for the first time in Herceg Novi. I am happy that our town is now enriched with another sport,” said Ralević. He also added that this is just the beginning of the plan and that he wants to move the borders of the sport so that primarily the youth and everyone else feel that the Sports Centre Igalo is their place for entertainment, socialization, and entertainment.
The general sponsor of the tournament is Hotel “Play” and the Municipality of Herceg Novi, also the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro and Sports Centre Igalo.
