21 September 2018 - "The advantage of information technology carries with it new security risks and challenges, and an adequate response can be given only through joint efforts, networking, linking and exchanging experiences," Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić said at the Conference on high-tech crime and information security "Connect securely" which was held on 20th September in Belgrade.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojša Stefanović, who invited Minister Nuhodžić to Serbia, said opening the conference that international cooperation is the only way to establish an efficient system of information security and a strong system in the fight against high-tech crime.

Minister Nuhodžić, addressing the participants of the conference, announced that Montenegro, through legislation and strategic documents, followed what the standards of the European Union adopted at the end of last year the Cyber Security Strategy for the period 2018-2021 and the Criminal Code fully complied with the Council of Europe Convention on High-Tech Crime.

In the previous four-year period, the Montenegrin police filed about 60 criminal charges for the criminal offenses of unauthorised incursion into the computer system, forgery and misappropriation of credit cards, child pornography, threats to security, and unauthorised collection of criminal offenses against the high-tech crime and the use of personal data. Also, citizens reported over 80 frauds committed with the help of information technologies, and preventive and repressive actions of all institutions of the system prevented the creation of multi-million damages," Minister Nuhodžić emphasised.

Minister Nuhodžić stressed that Montenegro devotes considerable attention to technical modernisation and equipping forensic "tools", professional training of police investigators, as well as to improving regional and cooperation with INTERPOL and EUROPOL, which is confirmed by the active participation of Montenegrin police in international actions Mutertag and Avalans.

The Joint Declaration of Ministers was adopted at the conference, expressing, among other things, strong commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in the fight against high-tech crime and to promote the safety of the individual on the Internet, in particular the safety of children and youth, and the promotion of the protection of all types of digital violence, sexual exploitation and child pornography, as well as raising awareness through the media, publications of law enforcement agencies, the private sector and civil society organisations.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Nuhodžić spoke with Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, Hungarian Interior Minister Sándor Pintér and INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stokes.
